ABOUT THE MAGAZINE

Inaugural Issue
Inaugural Issue
Vol 1 Num 1, 1991 (32 Pages)

Mountain Homes Illustrated (MHI) has been published since 1991. Our inaugural issue was 32 pages, mostly black & white ads, on newsprint. We are proud that many of those original advertisers are still with us, and many more have become regular customers - testimony to the results that we have worked so hard to provide.

Currently, the magazine averages 132 pages per issue and is published 5 times per year. It would have been easy and profitable to add extra issues to the cycle, but we have maintained our original promise of providing the longest shelf life of any periodical real estate magazine in the mountains.

This long shelf life (10 weeks per issue) allows us to concentrate our efforts on our massive and widespread circulation system. Each of these 5 issues includes an important seasonal event or holiday weekend, so there are no "dead" periods.

DISTRIBUTION

Red House Box

We currently print 35,000 copies of the magazine each issue. We believe that this figure more than doubles the press run of our closest competition, and is another reason that Mountain Homes Illustrated is such an incredible advertising value.

To illustrate the amount that this represents - imagine 15 pallets of magazines, each 4 feet high, 4 feet wide, 4 feet deep, and weighing over 2000 lbs each. It is quite a truckload!

These magazines are then quickly distributed to over 500 locations in over 50 communities around Colorado, including many in the Denver area. No sooner do we get the first round out, than we are out restocking locations across the mountain region, and this process continues until we have efficiently circulated all 35,000 copies and the next truck rolls in.

ADVERTISING RATES

The value of Mountain Homes Illustrated is found in our extra long shelf life of 10-12 weeks per issue. This results in an annualized cost for our contract advertisers of around $235 per month for FULL PAGE, FULL COLOR advertising on high quality, glossy paper, with a UV coated cover.

Single issue rates are as follows:

Full Page: 1 Issue: $695.00 (All Rates are for full 10 week period)

Half Page: $395.00 (4-8 Properties)

Quarter Page: $235.00. (1-3 Properties)

There are significant discounts available for multi-page spreads, consecutive issues, Board of Realtors membership or PDF submission, and there may be additional charges for single issue ad insertions, or particularly complicated layouts.

POLICIES

National Association of Real Estate Publishers

Our policy is basically to always act in the best interest of our customers. We attempt to produce an error free publication, but despite our noble efforts, mistakes sometimes happen. We long ago determined that trying to fix the blame on our advertisers would not be productive, and it amazes us to see others doing business this way.

Except in the case of known credit risks, we never require payment in advance, and only send out invoices upon satisfactory publication of the magazine, so there is no financial risk in dealing with Mountain Homes Publishing.

We are members in good standing of the National Association of Real Estate Publishers (NAREP) and pledge to operate under their Code of Ethics. at all times. We also believe strongly in the "Golden Rule".

AD SPECIFICATIONS

We can accept ads in many forms, but the absolute best scenario is a pre-proofed PDF file from your ad agency.

Our In-House Graphics Team can produce stunningly beautiful work with some advance notice, but deadline pressures are an obstacle, and additional costs may be incurred.

The next best thing is to submit your information through our website (See above). You can send photos in GIF or JPG format, and enter your property descriptions right online. It is hard to go wrong submitting your ads this way.

Some advertisers send us MS Publisher files, others send QuarkXpress, PageMaker, or MS Word files in various stages of completion. We can handle almost anything, but we will deal with these on a case by case basis regarding the application of "camera ready" discounts. One thing to remember is to always send any unusual fonts (located in your C:\Windows\Fonts directory). Failure to send fonts will usually cause your ad to look "DIFFERENT".

Or, you can just pack up an envelope with everything you need in your ad, and send it in, or let us know when to pick it up. Believe it or not, this still works fine!! No discounts for YOU though!

Here are some of the basic measurements and settings in case anyone asks:

Final Trim: (The size of the magazine) 8.25" x 10.25"
Full Bleed Size: (If you want color to the edge) 8.75" x 10.75" (Bigger is OK)
Live Type Area: (The dimensions of your actual ad content) 7.5" x 9.5"
Line Screen: 133 LPI (Finer screens may be useable, but dot gain is a possibility)
Recommended Image Resolution: 266 DPI (Lower is OK as long as Pixel Dimensions are adequate)
Minimum Recommended Image Dimension: 640x480 Pixels (This will produce a good quality 2.4" x 1.8" image at 266 DPI regardless of the input resolution)
